Protein Music

The music of the one verse

What would our DNA sound like played on a musical scale? Why do these wild thoughts come to me out of seemingly nowhere without apparent relevance to anything that seems to be happening? I will share my journey on the first question and gratefully receive any thoughts on the second question because I don’t know where to start on that one.

First I look up what DNA looks like; both an artistic rendition and the scientific printout of a DNA test. This doesn’t help as I don’t know enough about either music or DNA to even start relating the two. So I think maybe AI art can help stimulate things and try submitting the words DNA and music-related words to see what AI art would come up with. It generated all sorts of wildly different visuals from what looks like Semitic languages to sound waves visualized in 3d but mostly just a lot of abstract fun. It hits me that I do not presently have awareness of any of the knowledge or tools needed for this experiment.

It turns out that turning DNA into music is already a thing being experimented with. The objective is to look at DNA from a different perspective and look for patterns that may emerge. I found these two the most interesting but there are others experimenting with this:

Are all forms really just a song at their core?

Does sound create songs or do songs create sound or is it happening simultaneously all the time?

Are those Buddhist wind chimes actually creating or changing something?

Is this why music has such an effect on us and perhaps how Beethoven was able to see what his music sounded like?

Finally, what in the heck does this have to do with healing my heart at this time?

Lots of thoughts and ideas come as possible answers but I don’t know. This was exciting enough for me to write down in this here journal of life though.

“Everything sings, the whole universe and all the other universes. It’s in our genes, see, not just in our ears.” — Bryan Islip

“What is the universe? The universe is a symphony of vibrating strings … we are nothing but melodies. We are nothing but cosmic music played out on vibrating strings and membranes. “— Michio Kaku

Perhaps, I am just not listening :)
