Looking Up

A grounded perspective

The sky behind
the airplane flies
dissipates and becomes
everything

Where I lie
is no more real
than the thoughts I watch
glide away

This endless shoot
of grass imbues
humidity with
viridescence

Nothing glimmers
more than here
which is really nowhere
special

And that’s what
makes it matter —
the sheer mundanity
of existence

Exquisitely
I visit
this perspective of
my place

And moult
the plumage I
put on — civilized
humanity

I sense myself
more surely
on the ground amongst
the dirt

Mingling o’er the
reaching roots
I’m humbled by
this Earth

Kaleidoscopic
space above
swirls around my
psyche

Gives me pause
to find myself —
a macrocosmic
spec
