Expectations

In many contexts in life, people will hold some kind of expectation of you.

Expectations about what you should do, how you should do it, and whether or not you even should do something to begin with.

Sometimes these expectations have underlying good intentions; sometimes they don’t.

Sometimes you will agree with them, sometimes you won’t.

These expectations can often be overwhelming, both in terms of the sheer volume of them that exist and their specific contents.

Thankfully, much sanity can be found once you come to terms with the reality that you cannot possibly satisfy the image everyone has in mind for you.

There is nothing wrong with cooperation and wanting to do right by others, but it’s also important to be able to recognize yourself in the mirror — to know what works for you, what doesn’t, and what your goals are.

And sometimes what works for you — what you need — is not going to be what others have in mind.

And that’s ok.
