You Were Always Worthy

Even before you sorted out your shit.

I wrote this little piece last year and kept intending to make it a completed poem, but the more I looked at it the more I felt it already was complete. Which honestly was the whole point of the words:

We're already enough.

When you struggle with mental illness and getting your life together, um... repeatedly, I think at the end of the day the goal is to come to terms with who you are. And understand that you're enough.

You were always enough.

I know it's so odd to even try to think that way. Most of us have spent our whole lives believing we were never smart, pretty, thin, or good enough.

It's so easy to crawl through this world believing that we're lacking. Like we have to get out of the way for the people who matter. As if we're just holding space.

I can’t convince anyone that they matter much more than they know. But I’ve seen it nevertheless in myself and others.

We’ve spent so much time feeling unworthy, that we don’t know what to do with ourselves and the idea that we could be so much more.

That greatness is already inside of us.

One of these days, I hope you feel it too--the truth that our bad days don't need to mean anything more, and that we are far more than those bad days.

One of these days, I hope you love for you.
